Crochet Placemats and coasters

I usually stick to cute tops and bras, you know, the classics; but on this particular yarn store trip, fate had other plans. I was just there to pick up a few essentials (yarn and yarn only, I swore to myself), when I spotted a pack of 10 jute balls lying around.

"I could make something out of it. It can't be that hard...can it?"

Listen, I love a good challenge!

And I immediately knew what I'd make out of it: Placemats and coasters. So I went to the drawing board (my journal) sketched a few ideas and decided to freestyle it. I have been crocheting for so many years now, sometimes I don't need a pattern. It's like how moms throw together the best meals without a recipe and when you ask them for one, they ask you to measure with "love".

So there I was: me, my 4.25mm hook, and the jute. Staring each other down. It took me 8 days for a set of 8 placemats and coasters; so beautiful and rustic, but my oh my jute is a little rough on the fingers. My joints were a little sore after but it was totally worth it.

And no, you didn’t think I’d leave you hanging, right?

I wrote down the pattern and included some photos of the final pieces too. Scroll down for the good stuff!
