And It's Handmade: Cute Pink Flower Handbag
I love a trip to the yarn store, my pocket doesn't. It's not easy being a visionary... (juuust kidding, I have terrible self-control). Have you been to the Strangers Club in Cape Town yet? Oh no... I fear this is one of my rambles all over again...
Last year, I decided I wanted to learn the art of crocheting handbags after having breakfast with my family at The Strangers Club and walking through their artisanal boutique. But I didn't want to make a tote. I wanted a functional handbag with lining and pockets inside. I thought, "How hard could it be? I can sew, I can crochet, that's easy!"
Plot twist: It was not.
I have come up with a series of 4 handbags in total, and boy oh boy, they were the bane of my existence!
I don't know... When life is too peaceful, I like to create new problems to solve; sorry, I promised to limit the negative self-talk, we call them "side quests" now.
By then, I had experimented with T-shirt yarn and Bella Ribbons, so I decided to make something cute for myself in pink. Originally, the pattern was hearts woven into each other.
Thank you, Sirin's Crochet!
But the said hearts ended up looking like pink morning glories from a side view. And you know what? I like it.
The pattern was fun to re-create... No, actually, it wasn't. I had to learn to love starting over and forming new neural pathways. When did crochet become so philosophical?
Cutting out and sewing the lining felt like a hostage situation.
Accessorising, on the other hand, is my favourite part, because by then I know I will be done soon.
I get my chains from Chinatown (love Chinatown <3), and the buttons from the fabric store. What can I say? Nothing beats a good bank for your buck (or a Jet2 holiday, you decide).
The chain is silver, an intentional challenge to step outside my comfort zone since I prefer gold.
Please look at this:
For someone who is not trying to sell these anytime soon, I must be a bit insane to have designed a logo for my crochet stuff with the help of a good friend. Perhaps I am loved and understood after all.
I have left a detailed pattern for you below, in case you're looking for a side quest too.
If you're not in your bag, perhaps you should hand-make your own...
Let me know how it goes! I promise, I will write back ;)
